He volunteers at local hospitals, the Syracuse City School District’s Refugee Assistance program, and at Vera House, a haven for domestic and sexual violence victims. | | | Kelsie Wilson tests her culinary knowledge in Atlantic City competition After high school, Kelsie Wilson ’20 had her eyes set on culinary school. But she decided to take her career path in a new direction when she was inspired by a dietitian. She found her way to Syracuse’s nutrition program, where she was part of the first team to represent the Syracuse Chapter of the American Culinary Federation in the Baron H. | | | Dr. Gangamma leads study, strengthens mental health services in local refugee community Refugees face numerous psychosocial-cultural challenges that are sometimes heightened by language barriers. To help create culturally-informed practices of care, as well as fill a crucial gap in services to promote refugee health, Falk College and The Multicultural Association of Medical Interpreters (MAMI) will collaborate to develop a training module for interpreters and psychotherapists. | | | Food studies partners to bring fresh produce to campus dining halls Earlier this year, the food studies program brought to campus Kevin Richardson of Agbotic Farms, located an hour north of campus. Richardson met with Sustainability Management and Food Services staff, and Food Studies faculty, and a partnership was created. Now, the University can offer students fresh, locally grown produce year-round, like baby radishes and beet greens. Read this story. |
