The Sport Management (SPM) Club at Syracuse University will hold its Tenth Annual Charity Sports Auction Saturday, December 6 at the Carrier Dome. Silent bidding on hundreds of auction items, including sports memorabilia and hands-on experiences, electronics and tickets to major sporting events, will take place in the backcourt during the SU men’s basketball game against St John’s University. Doors will open for the auction at 3:15 p.m. through Gates A, B, C & E. Game time is 5:15 p.m. All of the proceeds from this year’s auction will benefit Make-A-Wish Central New York.
“We are thrilled that the students selected Make-A-Wish® Central New York as this year’s charity auction beneficiary. With over 60 wishes in process and the average cost of a wish nearing $10,000, the students and community can fully appreciate the impact that auction proceeds will have. Whether it’s a wish to go somewhere, have something, meet someone, or be someone, together, we can ensure that these wishes come true,” said Diane Kuppermann, president & CEO of the local chapter. “Wishes provide HOPE, and that is very powerful medicine.”
The SPM Club is a student-run organization in the Falk College’s Sport Management Department. Since its founding in 2005, the SPM Club has raised nearly $213,000 for local charities. Previous beneficiaries of the club’s annual charity sports auction have included the Boys & Girls Clubs, American Diabetes Association, Golisano Children’s Hospital at Upstate, the Ronald McDonald House Charities of CNY, the Central New York SPCA, the Upstate Cancer Center, Special Olympics New York, and most recently, Food Bank of Central New York, which was given $30,500.
Make-A-Wish® Central New York serves 15 counties, including Broome, Cayuga, Chenango, Cortland, Herkimer, Jefferson, Lewis, Madison, Oneida, Onondaga, Oswego, Otsego, St. Lawrence, Tioga and Tompkins counties.
Purchase of a game ticket for the December 6 Syracuse men’s basketball game is necessary for access to the auction and can be purchased on the SU Athletics’ Web site or at the Carrier Dome Box Office.
