Sue Cornelius Edson

Professor of Practice

Sue Cornelius Edson (she/her/hers) joined the Department of Sport Management in the David B. Falk College of Sport and Human Dynamics in fall 2024 as a professor of practice.

Edson currently serves as chief communications officer for Syracuse Athletics and is responsible for all public relations and media relations functions for the department. A 34-year veteran of Syracuse Athletics, Edson was promoted to her current role in the spring of 2015. Prior to her promotion, she served as associate director of athletics for communications (2006-14), assistant director of athletics for communications (2004-06) and director of athletic communications (1997-2004). Edson previously taught a class in sports public relations as an adjunct professor in Syracuse University’s S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications from 1994 to 2013.

In 2006, Edson was honored with the Eastern College Athletic Conference-Sports Information Directors Association’s (ECAC-SIDA) Irving T. Marsh Award for excellence in the field of sports information. The following year, she was recognized with the Greater Syracuse “40 Under 40” award for her contributions to the workplace and local community.

Edson is a member of the Syracuse University Women in Leadership Steering Committee and serves as co-Vice President of the Greater Syracuse Sports Hall of Fame Board. Previously, she was co-president of the Jamesville-DeWitt Youth Athletic Association Board of Directors and served as co-coordinator of the basketball program.

Edson graduated from Syracuse University in 1990 with Bachelor of Arts degrees in broadcast journalism and policy studies.
