Summer 2018
Dear Falk College Students,
During the Spring 2018 semester, Syracuse University learned about deeply disturbing conduct by one of its professional fraternity chapters. The troubling actions seen in online videos are contrary to the community standards we expect of our students. Syracuse University and Falk College are committed to ensuring our living and learning environment fosters dignity and respect at all times.
Faculty and staff across campus are currently developing new approaches to keeping the topic of embracing all members of our community at the forefront of our discourse. New and returning students will note academic changes and new experiences on campus that reflect our commitment to improving the atmosphere of respect for others and self. Our work continues this summer, and the Falk College community will be updated on progress.
Students with questions or concerns should reach out to Falk College’s Office of Student Services for guidance on available resources here in our College and at Syracuse University. In Falk College, it is our responsibility to engage our students in creative, peaceful discussion and non-violent social justice methods. It is a responsibility we take very seriously, and one we conduct steadfastly in our interactions with students and beyond. Across the Falk College community, we will encourage full discussion and join in thoughtful reflection together. It is critical for us to support one another in these efforts.
Sincerely,
Diane Lyden Murphy, M.S.W., M.A., Ph.D.
Dean, Falk College
