On Wednesday, May 4, 2016, Falk College and its Department of Sport Management hosted “Sport for Life,” a multimedia symposium examining the positive benefits of sports and exercise for senior citizens. The event included the premiere of the documentary “Sport for Life,” produced by Emmy award-winning professor of practice, Dennis Deninger. Educator, former CFS department chair, who helped pave way for Head Start Retired professor of child and family studies Bettye Caldwell passed away on April 17. Her work in the 1960s at the Children’s Center of Syracuse provided the foundation for what became one of the most important components of the Great Society programs known today as Head Start. Professor Caldwell, who chaired the Department of Child and Family Studies, worked for more than five decades in comprehensive early childhood development programming primarily serving low-income preschool-age children and their families. Falk College is currently raising awareness for Child Abuse Prevention Awareness Month and the McMahon/Ryan Child Advocacy Site. Falk College Ambassadors and peer advisors planted a pinwheel garden on campus on April 9 and will be selling blue rubber wristbands for $1 each in support of Child Abuse Prevention Month, as well as soliciting donations for paper pinwheels, which also are $1 each. Event purposefully connects event management coursework, experiential learning, social responsibility The Sport Venue and Event Management Graduate Program in Falk College is hosting a charity golf tournament to benefit Vera House on May 9 at Timber Banks Golf Club in Baldwinsville, NY beginning at 12:30 p.m. Monies raised will support Vera House’s comprehensive domestic and sexual violence programs. For the second straight year, members of the Syracuse University Baseball Statistics and Sabermetrics Club participated in the Diamond Dollars Case Competition in Phoenix, Arizona, over Spring Break.
