The Falk College’s Sport Management Club ‘After the Auction’ Sale is happening now through December 20. Non-perishable food donations accepted at campus drop-off locations through Nov. 22 The Student Council on Family Relations (SCFR), a recognized graduate student organization in the Falk College’s Department of Child and Family Studies, is sponsoring a food drive to benefit Vera House. Falk grad students travel to Philadelphia to explore sport facilities management

Graduate students in the Falk College’s Sport Venue and Event Management M.S. program traveled to Philadelphia Nov. 7-9 for a three-day field trip that included visits with various executives from the Philadelphia Phillies (MLB), Philadelphia Eagles (NFL), Philadelphia 76ers (NBA), Front Row Marketing and Aramark, a global leader in facilities and food services. A highlight of the field trip included attendance at a Philadelphia 76ers NBA game against the Cleveland Cavaliers. CFS Student Organizes Clothing Drive for High School Workshop

In preparation for an hour-­‐long workshop geared to target students of junior and senior class standing in Fowler Highschool, WCNY and David B. Falk senior and workshop presenter, Chyna A. Fox, are looking to collect new to gently used business professional garments and accessories to coincide with their presentation. The newly developed Trying on Success workshop has been structured to provide students with valuable appearance-­‐related information about how to dress in job and college interviews as well as “on-­‐the-­‐job”. The SPM Advisory Council is sponsoring an online auction to benefit SPM initiatives for undergraduate and graduate students. Proceeds raised will directly benefit undergraduate and graduate student initiatives for the Department of Sport Management in the Falk College, including (but not limited to): need-based financial assistance in support of research; scholarship; community service and civic engagement; travel to academic presentations; experiential learning opportunities; educational trips to network and learn from industry practitioners and a special needs fund to offset student emergencies.

Falk research team partners with Onondaga County to help reduce adolescent involvement in juvenile justice system

Article by George Bain A Falk College research team is helping Onondaga County identify risk factors that indicate when children and youth will cross over from the child welfare system into the juvenile justice system. The team includes CFS associate professor, Matthew Mulvaney, the project director; Rachel Razza, assistant professor of child and family studies; Nancy Mudrick, professor of social work; Keith Alford, associate professor of social work, and; Carrie Jefferson Smith, director and associate professor of social work. Larsen focuses research on Malaria elimination in Zambia

In the Amazon port city of Belem, Brazil, David Larsen came to understand the luxury of a few pennies. Falk Students, Syracuse Crunch Team Up on Performance Nutrition

A group of undergraduate and graduate students interested in sport nutrition worked with nutrition instructor and registered dietitian Jane Burrell Uzcategui to deliver a cooking demo and Q and A session to the Crunch players on Nov. 4 and a tour at Wegmans on Nov. 11. Brooks Gump named Falk Family Endowed Professor of Public Health

Brooks B. Gump, Ph.D., MPH, has been named the Falk Family Endowed Professor of Public Health in the Falk College at Syracuse University. Gump joined the Falk College faculty in 2010 and is currently a professor in the Department of Public Health, Food Studies and Nutrition, where he also serves as the graduate program director for public health. “In consultation with the Falk family, I am pleased to name Dr. Brooks Gump as the Falk Family Endowed Professor of Public Health. Falk College Participates in Global Efforts to Educate, Engage Grassroots Efforts to Alleviate Hunger

Today 50 million Americans, including 17 million children, are living in households unable to afford adequate food, according to the International Human Rights Clinic at New York University. The 2013 edition of the Right to Food and Nutrition Watch, an international publication unveiled today in English, Spanish and French, explores global issues surrounding the right to food and nutrition. The Watch’s accessible, timely and relevant analysis and case studies provide grassroots organizations confronted by violations to the right to adequate food and nutrition examples of how civil society groups have taken action at the local, regional, and international levels.
