“Improving Financial wellness among African Americans through Financial Literacy Education: Advancing Health Equity in Underserved Communities” is a culturally sensitive, faith-based health education intervention. The project goals are to: (1) reduce the burden of social determinants of health through financial literacy education; (2) increase awareness of the importance of financial wellness to one’s health status; and (3) reduce the risk of adverse COVID-19 outcomes by distributing New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH) COVID-19 literature about current Onondaga County resources and protocols. Project activities include the following: educating Black churches about financial literacy and the importance of financial wellness to health; developing a culturally competent brochure to provide information to the community about financial literacy; identifying local go-to resources about financial literacy and wellness; and distributing NYSDOH COVID-19 literature about Onondaga County COVID -19 protocols. Project partners include the Genesis Health Project Network, Pastors’ Health Council of Central New York, Inter-denominational Ministerial Alliance of Syracuse, Black Churches, NYSDOH, and Onondaga County Health Department.
