Social Work in Palliative Cancer Care: A Mixed-Method Study

Ting Guan (SWK) PI, Social Work in Palliative Cancer Care: A Mixed-Method Study

Palliative care is an interdisciplinary model of care with the goal of improving the quality of life for patients with cancer and their families. Social workers are vital in delivering essential psychosocial services in palliative care. However, the specific responsibilities and functions of social workers in palliative care, particularly within the context of cancer, have not been clearly defined. This project aims to understand the roles of social workers in palliative cancer care by conducting semi-structured interviews. The findings will provide a better understanding of the practice domain of social work in palliative cancer care and demonstrate the contributions that social workers bring to the interdisciplinary team.
