“The Sport Venue and Event Management program at Syracuse University rivals any program in the country. It is the fourth school of which I have matriculated, so you can trust me on this. SU’s SVEM program is well-suited for those wishing to find a career in the sport industry. I truly appreciate my time there, because not only was it classroom learning, but also an abundance of practical, hands-on learning. As a student, I was afforded the opportunity to experience many events and sports from different angles. Whether it was a country music concert, a monster truck show, or a weekend triathlon experience, the experiential learning was invaluable. The crowning achievement of the Sport Venue and Event Management program was the year-long project of the First Annual SVEM Charity Golf Classic. I was proud to be a part of something that had a profound impact on an entire university and community. To date, it has been one of the most fulfilling endeavors of my life. To help raise more than $15,000 to support victims of domestic and sexual violence and the education of the perpetrators of the violence, as a part of a Sport Management program, is a rarity. For me, it was a blessing, and is not something I take lightly. I was able to help set the standard for future classes, with the hope they would exceed our efforts every year. Syracuse University’s Sport Venue and Event Management program was well worth every day this born and bred southern gentleman spent in the arctic city of Syracuse. It helped prepare me for my current job as Director of Special Events for the Chapel Hill Country Club.”
