Sport Management students gain industry experience during senior Capstone

Twelve Sport Management seniors left the comfortable confines of the Syracuse University campus during the Fall 2015 semester to gain real-world experience in the sport industry as part of their 12-credit senior Capstone experience.

The students interned with ASM Sports in Fort Lee, NJ; Evolution Media in New York, NY; Kansas City Chiefs in Kansas City, MO; Brooklyn Nets in Brooklyn, NY; NFL Players Association in Washington, DC; New York Red Bulls in Harrison, NJ; University of Florida Athletics in Gainsville, FL; Super Bowl Host Committee in San Francisco, CA; Basketball Travelers Inc./Paradise Jam in Seattle, WA; Ephesus Lighting in Syracuse; and Under Armour in Baltimore, MD.

“Sport Management really puts an emphasis on experiential learning and the culmination of this is the senior Capstone,” said Sport Management internship placement coordinator Jaime Grillo. “It’s the students’ responsibility to research the industry, network, apply, set up interviews, and ultimately find a company to work with for the required 540 hours. It’s a tremendous learning experience for the students and has been a huge success.”

The 12 seniors who completed their Capstones in the Fall were Greg Ackerman, Jakob Bocianski, Jayson Brenner, Tim Carlon, Jake Curran, Robert Hamill, Dean Hirschberg, Alexis Howard-Orr, Brendan Major, Kathryn Petkevich, Jacob Rosen, and Dan Scanlon.
