The School of Social Work in Falk College, an approved provider of continuing education for LMSWs and LCSWs in New York State, is offering “Quality Dementia Care: Professional Training for a Person-Centered Culture.” Quality Dementia Care provides an in-depth overview of five major content areas within the evidence-based 2018 Alzheimer’s Association Dementia Care Practice Recommendations. The curriculum contains both content-learning and interactive application across topics including: basic information about dementia and Alzheimer’s disease, fundamentals of person-centered care, best practices for needs assessment and care planning, proactively planning for dementia-related behaviors, and supportive approaches for activities of daily living.

- Outline principles of person-centered care
- Describe the goal and components of a comprehensive, timely needs assessment
- Describe the relationship between communication and behavior, including ways in which dementia-related behavior may be an expression of an unmet physical, social, or internal need
- Demonstrate ability to use the Cues and Clues model to observe and respond to dementia-related behaviors
- Describe graded support for activities of daily living across all stages of the disease process
- Identify ways in which ADL support can help professional caregivers to build connections with the person whom they are caring for
