The School of Social Work in Falk College, an approved provider of continuing education for LMSWs and LCSWs in New York State, will offer a six-day Social Work Practice Fellows (SWPF) program allowing social work supervisors to honor their real world experiences while engaging in interactive learning. This premier 36-hour certificate program features an advanced curriculum with a focus on some of the most complex issues that challenge MSW supervisors. The curriculum will be covered through 12 convenient learning sessions of three hours apiece, two consecutive weeks per month. Completion of all 12 sessions is required for earning the SWPF certificate and CE contact hours.

This fourth session on “Supervision to advance knowledge of mental health and substance use challenges impacting individuals and families across the life course” continues teaching supervisors how to support staff in planning to meet the needs of clients with mental illnesses and substance use across the life course. Included are supervisory considerations for supporting social service workers in the ongoing assessment of mental disorder symptoms and their potential impacts on clients and their families, building understanding of effective practice models as supported by research evidence, appreciating the complex nature of self-determination, and the intersections of these issues with cultural diversity.
