Lynn Brann (NFS-NSD) PI, PI and Rachel Razza (HDFS) co-PI, Cultivating Self-Regulation and Healthy Food Intake: Parental and Caregiver Engagement to Support Mindful Eating Behaviors Among Young Children, Pediatric Nutrition Practice Group – Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Foundation. 7/1/22-6/30/24

To cultivate food acceptance and enhance food preferences in young children, our research team has developed an intervention model to incorporate mindful eating and self-regulation within family and childcare settings. Parents and caregivers play a crucial role in shaping children’s food behaviors. The goal of this research study is to develop and test the parent and caregiver mindful eating and mindful feeding components of the intervention. Parent and caregiver lessons will be developed, pilot-tested, and revised to improve feasibility, acceptability, and mode of delivery. Given that parental engagement is an ongoing concern for child nutrition interventions, we are particularly invested in creating a program that maximizes involvement of parents. Next, the full intervention model will be tested with preschool children, parents, and caregivers.
